Handmade unique porcelain doll heads, hand painted with glaze and stoneware fired.
Combining their love of drawing and painting with creating ceramics led Karen and Claire, of Red Earth Designs, to depicting their drawings of insects, moths, butterflies and now botanical sketches, on Tiny Tears doll heads. Each head is cast in porcelain, influenced by the girls’ love of fancy dress and the slightly creepy antique porcelain Dolls played with as children. Nostalgic Objects to which you become attached to in some way, and wish to keep, look at and appreciate, reminding us of the past.
Karen and Claire of Red Earth Designs have a love of all things natural….. beach finds, curiosities, fragments, patterns, interesting weatherworn natural forms, seed pods and marine life to name a few, their influence can be found in these unique dolls heads.
Each head is completely handmade and unique in size, decoration and finish and come displayed on a wooden plinth.

Red Earth Designs brings together the creative and business talents of twin sisters, Claire and Karen Gibson, both with a Masters Degree in Fine and Applied Art from the University of Ulster at Belfast. In business since 2001, producing a range of unique and exciting ceramics with a very distinctive style.
It has been described as beautiful, fresh, innovative, contemporary, modern and unique.
